Sorry if this has been done...mods please delete (but let me know) iv done a search but didnt find anything...through 100's of pages 9didnt check all)

Ok so for the past 10 months or so..my 1999 mpi, was running ruff, kinda like a miss fire/flatspot..
So i replaced the fuel filter, plugs/leads,cleaned my K&N..even got all the codes cleared from ECU and had her on a rolling road...even had the injectors cleaned n new fuel baskets things in...o also borrowed minibonkerz coil pack to see if that was at fault....but to noavail..it still had the problem...grrrrrrr

So got a call from minibonkerz n asked what fuel am i using...Total exxcelum i said...97RON....thats ya problem he said....

Haaaa, whts that...well the mpi timing is setup for 95RON.....ok so i ran the tank down n refilled with 95RON...Bobs ya uncle we dont talk about...cured it.....

What a friggin nightmare n wasted money on things i didnt need, but hey we live n learn...so thought i'd let anyone who didnt know,...know

As iv seen a thread on here about thier mpi kangarooing.

Happy now...yayyyyy

What's 95RON when it's at home? Is it the more expensive stuff when you fill up that I always double check to make sure I'm not using it?!

hmmm - to be honest, although the mini injection system wont change the timing to get the best out of the petrol... but it does seem to burn better and in my experience make them run better :s

so have you always used the 97RON (premium unleaded) petrol since you've had your mini? It just i wonder if its the same with all MPI's or not. I have always put the cheaper stuff (normal unleaded) in mine, but once they had ran out so i put the premium in, i didn't notice any difference in my mini, did notice the difference in my wallet tho :P

i've recently changed from tesco cheap petrol to vpower in mpi. i've recently had the tappets tightened, a new exhaust, a service and the injectors cleaned so i don't know if only one thing has made a difference or if it's a combo of all of them, but Donny drives like a dream now. It wasn't bad before, but now he revs higher and accelerates faster and I LOVE IT!!!!

I used to run reguler for a year then switched to 97RON....was good at first imo, as said seemed to rev higher etc..cost a bomb n didnt last long....then about a year ago started popping, holding back in power kind of miss fireing...thats why it didnt even come to me that the petrol was causing it........Hmmm just had a thought...wonder if the garage is fiddling with thier petrol....as 95% of the time fill up at the same one ??

something which pops up from time to time is where you buy your petrol from.

Often the quality of the fuel from petrol stations like Shell or BP is much better than from a supermarket filling stations.

I remember someone once telling me that supermarkets put additivies into their fuel the "cheapen" it....don't know if that is true, but i find my mpi runs a lot sweeter on fuel from big name filling stations, rather than from a supermarket.

theres a huge thread on fuels on here somewhere, it was a top topic for a couple weeks a few months back,
i think it started as someone trying to fight the fuel price increases, lots of info on fuel if you can find it. :)
