I have an oil pressure gauge (needs to have the needle regllued, and i have another which needs some de-oiling ).

Either way, i can find the thing that screws into the oil pressure switch area in the block. The thing with a metal pipe coming out of it and going to the back of the block.

I also have the metal pipe that screws onto the back of the gauge.

What I want to know is how do I connect the two? Do I get some narrow hose or will it leak due to pressure?

Also what is needed to convert from a capillary water temperature sensor in the block to an electrical one? I removed the electrical one and all it was was the nut end of it and a spring... is this right?

The oil pressure pipe, needs a 'T' piece, you remove the oil pressure switch, screw in the 'T' piece and fit the pipe to the gauge one side and refit the oil pressure switch in the other.


Are you converting from an electrical gauge to a capilary type?

Right now I have only the pressure switch. I do not need this since I'll have a gauge, so i don't need a T-piece.

The cars that I have seen have simply a pipe going out from where the pressure switch would be.

What I would like to know is how to connect that metal pipe to the metal pipe that is at the back of the actual gauge...

from memory, the mini's i used to have had a small metal pipe coming out of the block where the switch mounted, then where it went over the engine( by the flywheel housing), it changed to a rubber pipe, then at the back of the gauge it went back to the metal pipe again.

from memory, when i had an oil pressure gauge fitted to a different car, i had a nut union which screwed into the back of the gauge. the pipe was plastic not to thick and was connected to the gauge via throgh the nut union usion an olive connector. its basicaly a small piece of bar with the ends tappered so when you look at it side on it look like a v shape all the way around. it was connected to the sensor in the same way
