i need an uprated alternator just so i know it wont be straining the little car
i have myself a 1979 mini 1000 ive had a new alternator put on but am i correct in saying the standard alternators are something silly like 45-55amp?
I want something around the 70+ ampage .............
now whats the best options to uprate to the new alternator i.e http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=34691
or do you guys know of any other manufactures or other car alternators that just bolt on?
Looking forward to your replys.

Ive got a 90 amp Granada Scorpio alternator on mine. Straightforward enough to fit (I did it so it cant be that difficult!) Cost me about £45 for a new old stock alt from a guy on Ebay.
Hi mike, did you have to do any mods to make this fit or was it a straight forward swap?

The 70amp alternator I fitted had the 3 pin plug and a 6mm ring terminal so I used the ring terminal allowed me to run a couple of cables from the alternator to the battery solenoid terminal

It is a straightfoward swap in all honesty. The actual wiring is a piece of cake. The most time consuming bit I found was adjusting the mounting
bushes so that the pulleys all run dead inline with each other. The main modifications are listed below.
1. The alternator output cable to the starter solenoid needs uprating to thick cable to handle the extra current. I used some Jaguar battery cable which is about double the thickness of normal Mini stuff.
2. The Ford pulley on the alternator needs swapping for the Mini one.
3. Obviously it is a good idea to fit a new fan belt while you have the chance. If you are using the big water pump pulley you will have to
use a longer fan belt. I think it is an 838mm belt that I used on mine.
4. You 'may' have to do some adjustment/modification to the alternator mounting bushes to ensure that the pulley on the alt and the
pulley on the water pump are running exactly inline with each other.
I dont think this will work on an MPi Mini due to the bigger size of the Granada alternator and where the MPi alt is positioned. I doubt that the bonnet would
close but I am willing to be proved wrong.

mike, your a diamond!... i just wanted to make sure the thing fit ok... the wiring is always easy, what year is the alt from as i want to get the right one... please..
At a guess I would say that they come off a MK3 (1985ish) onwards Granada. The one that looks like a Sierra. The alternator is made by Valeo and the part number is VA239.
