It's basically impossible for me to find car insurance for my 1992 Mini City 998. The cheapest i've found is around 4000. I'm currently in college and don't earn much, but i can't seem to find anything cheaper. My friend a few years ago got a 1.6 focus 03' model when he was 17, and it was 2000?! These are both just TPFT by the way. I was thinking of going with footman james, but im under 25, or I-Kube, but the car is over 16 years old. I would really like some help. Going on parents insurance is not applicable either, tried that, because it's a 2nd car for them, they won't insure me on it.

Tom.

With all three of my boys, I found that Direct Line was cheaper than any of the comparison sites although these quotes were for Escort, Corsa and Fiesta. I was told when I enquired about Mini isurance for my youngest son that they base the premium on his age and not the fact that it's a 30 year old classic although Direct Line wouldn't insure the car as it was over 20 years old :) As yours is within that figure it might be worth giving them a try.

Good Luck

Mike

Couple years back could get under £500 with footman james - they're a classic car insurance broker

Also be careful with direct line as their rules on mods are brutal and they canceled my policy as my exhaust wasn't made by *Rover*
Mini is now with Admiral and their mods policy is fairly cheap so give them a call.

Is that your own policy, or on a parents?

And Direct line wouldn't insure me as i am 17, gunna give footman james a call when they open tomorrow. If not, i'll be posting back in here. Insurance is hell.

Sorry that's not true in all cases - with my son they wanted £900, yet Peter James Insurance quoted £650. This was only two weeks ago, yet 8 months ago when we first got a quote, both companies were identical at £750 - now he is older and more experienced, FJ put the price up but PJ reduced it. Guess who got the business

Direct Line must have changed their guidelines then as my youngest was only 17 when he was with them

I agree it seems like going through hell but as you get older, it does get better!

Interesting Mike! Because footman james is a broker, my dad called them up about his renewal on the moke - by cancelling the policy he'd just started (getting near full refund) and starting a new policy with them, he saved big money AND put me on the insurance for an extra £30 ^^

re direct line, i was insured with them on my bmw and they wouldn't let me mod a thing as i was a "young" driver (under 25). :) but good service etc.

My wife and I have 2 classics and 2 daily drivers. Her Mx5 is on a classic policy with Footman James, for £197. My mini (picking it up today YE ha) is with them too and £197. both fully comp. one 0-60 in 8 seconds and insurance group 12 , the other 18 seconds and insurance group 2 Go work that out.
They quoted £763 TPFT for the mini with my 17 year old son on the policy once he passes his test. (I have to cancel the £ 197 policy) Until then he's insured on the cavalier with Marmalade Provisional Cover - google it £256 for 3 months.
