I know this has been done by the few in the past, fitting the E series 1750 maxi engine to a mini, appart from having to mod the driveshafts and make the bonnet fit over the cam cover and new engine mounts, has anyone here done it? I know the E series wasnt the best engine in the sence they suffered from clutch oil seal leaks and timing chain issues, but the ever popular want for more power is on the increase and a straight swap for a 1750 engine sounds like an obvious start point.

I know the 1750 is slightly taller than the 1500 version, but am i aslo not right in saying they are like the pug 205 gti, the smaller of the two ie the 1500 the stronger of the two? Anyone know the answer to this?

I may just have to find one and fit it to my spare subframe just for the laught and the because i could factor and find out......

if you want more power why use a old heavy engine ?

for the same amount of work you could fit a K series, vauxhal or honda engine

i wouldnt even go there lol, the 1750 is 100hp if youre lucky, which in all reality is terrible as its a heavy engine

its not that i want to do it, it was something of a question to see if people here had done it as like was said, its a period mod before the likes of modern engines. I was just interested to see what it went like what with the 5 speed box ect ect....... If i was going to do something, it would be radical and uncharted waters. Im no newbie to playing with things and making them fit ive been around engines welders and all kinds of goodies for many years now. Like i said, if i wanted mega power id just cut the bulkhead out, space frame, then rebuild the bulk, convert to rear wheel and go for a RB20DET lump. Hondas are pld hat now so are bike engines, i cans stand vaxhaul (personal opinion) so to me the choice of motor swap wpuld be Jap and powerfull so the RB would be the way for me to go.

I did it about 33/34 years ago, all i remember about it was, darned heavy steering, slower than my cooper s and made the car handle like a citroen 2cv. Dont bother!

I am sure there are a few more of us oldies that did it on here, but too ashamed to admit it! :)

Thanks customcart, that was more the answer i was looking for. The end results and what it did. I think you answered it all in that one post :)

Now that folks have me in the mind for it, i might have to go looking for yet another shell and an RB engine and rear end hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The wife will kill me but what the heck........................................lol could say sod the RB20DET and rob my skyline of its RB25DET and go for a rear seat drive 400bhp drag monster, now that would be a 'Grim Reaper' chariot.
