Are "dip beams" the normal headlights and the "main beams" what WE call the "high beams"?

Above is correct.

Re 100W bulbs..... 100W bulbs at 12Vdc is 8.3 amps PER LIGHT..... you will need at least 20 amp relays and Id suggest 1 for dipped and one for mains..at least..... also check your alternator capacity with 200W and 17amps in 2 bulbs remember you have to power all the other lights and sounds. or you will just flatten the battery

Good point... Does anyone know what the stock alternator output is on the '92 Sprite 1275? I have a basic stereo installed (draws less than 8A) as well as a set of 4 55W driving lights (about 18.3A draw). I currently run the 4 driving lights along with the headlights, since the old sealed-beam headlamps are so dim, but I was hoping that I would no longer have to all the time with more powerful, modern headlights installed.

I know I saw a thread either hee or over on MiniFinitythat had a full installation write-up for a dual-relay installation with pictures and diagrams, but now I can't find it - does anyone have a link to a more complete installation guide? I wired uop my own driving lights with a relay, so wiring theory isn't unknown to me, but I need to know where the wires are that I need to remove from the stock lights and use as the trigger voltage for the new relays. I assume that I'll need to use the stock wiring to trigger my relays, since I need the steering column switches to remain in operation...

Thanks very much!

I could be wrong but the standard alternator is about 44 amps...... a mini in the dark with no drivin lights can consume 20Amps..... go on add them up in the Haynes manual lol.......... it surprised me...... so your headroom is very limited

the easiest way would be too open the bonnet and see whats written on the alternator.... know my 96 SPi has a 55A one...
