Has anyone thought of doing a conversion using a Mitsi Evo 4G63T from a Mk 1,2 or 3 instead of the usual Ford Cosworth conversion?

Looking at the specs the evo is more modern, smaller, lighter and has more power and would have more readily available parts.

Evo Cosy
256bhp @309Nm 217bhp @290Nm
2510 2608 wheel base
1465 1468 track width
4310 4468 length
1250 1302 Kg
205 167 bhp/T

Fitting the Evo engine into a mini with a total weight around 700kg would give about 370bhp/T & 4WD!!

well, that would be a challenge, not so much the engine fitting but moreso the 4wd setup.

Surely Ford parts must be more available than Evo parts.

And I would have thought the Ford bits would be cheaper than Mitsubishi bits too.

cosworth conversions are hardly usual i have only heard of two one four and one six cylinder that are running, the big difference is the evo engine is transverse and the cosworth configuration is longitudinal, no 2 ltr engine is small and no 4wd system easy to fit so unless you are a very very skilled fabricator and know what you doing when it comes to building suspension with the correct geometry then its just a pipe dream

I meant the overall dimensions of the cars, the evo is smaller.

Wolfie - True but people still fit rover, vauxhall and suzuki engines so I just thought why not an evo engine.

have a look at http://www.grp4fabrications.com/

they do custom works not just ford, they make fully floating rear axles and all you might need to do the 4wd conversion. might be of some use

specificly this
http://www.grp4fabri...ex.php?cPath=34

it might be posible to mate the engine on a ford type 9 gearbox for a front engine rwd, who knows

The problem with not just fitting an engine from a Evo in a Mini, but running an Evo itself, its the maintence cost's, the evo needs to be serviced very regular, usually around the 5000 miles region, where as I imagine the ford engines can go a lot longer between services.

Also not to mention Ford part's are alot more readily available aswell as being cheaper to buy second hand.
