Can I Do Anything About Stiff Window Winders

Hey guys, my 87 Mayfairs windows are scratched because of how stiff and uncomfortable it is to wind them up and down, what can i do to help?

HI there I had that with mine what you need to do is take the door card off ,then undo the set screws for the winder mech.and ease the winder unit out when out greese the cogs and all will be good again hope this helps you out J.D.

If the glass is scratched in vertical lines it will be because the waist seals (the chrome trims along the bottom of the window) have worn through the rubber. Just lever them up to remove them.

If you're doing the winder and waist seal(s), as already suggested, you would be wise to also examine the felt-lined channels that the glass slides up and down in. These are known as UPPER WINDOW GLASS SEALS (Part Nos. PAM3076 and PAM3077) and they extend right down into the doors. If they are not quite seated correctly, damaged or swollen for any reason, the glass will not slide smoothly. Taking the glass out and running something of similar thickness (a thick wooden ruler is good) round the channel will soon show you if there are any tight spots.
