Hi
As part of my restoration of my 1960 Mini, I am currently working on the engine. the engine has been sitting for over two years, and on removal of the water pump, it shows quite a bit of corrosion around the impeller. This water pump is only 3 years old, the modern alloy type.

Anyway, I have two spare water pumps. One has the deeper impeller, with an alloy body alloy(I think for 1275 engines), and a rebuilt / refurbished cast iron water pump which requires lubrication. I think this rebuilt cast iron pump is the original type originally used on the mini

What would the best one be to use on my engine? Would the deep impeller fit my engine? The engine is the original 850cc unit.

Thanks
John

if your engine IS the original then your choice will be limited - the early blocks will not take the deeper impeller/water pump , i think it was in the mid 60s that the deeper pump was standard fit to all blocks , early pumps were cast iron and had a grease nipple /lub point on them - a bit hard to find now .

If you look over on specialist mini forums in the early mini section, there is a guy on there called Len Chandler(I think that is the correct spelling) and he does refurbs on the original cast iron type. Some of the later pumps are pure muck but as the previous poster said if you go with a more modern pump you will need a one with a shallow impeller.
