Hi,

I am searching around for another mini.

I already have a square nosed mini, a 73 australian, guess u could call it a clubman.

I want a round nose MKII mini. Did they make these in australia?

Or do i need to buy an import?

I would post this on an ozzy mini forum but they are both down.

Thanks

Thanks.

Just did a bit more research,

Turns out that in 1973, the original mini didnt meet australian standards and only the clubman was produced in australia after that. They also dropped the name "clubman" and they were marketed as simply "leyland minis".

Looks like i need to import a roundnose or buy someones here.

None for sale anywhere in oz at present. All minis for sale are square nosed.

if you really want a round nosed mini y not do a conversion wich many people do is cut of the square nose and simply fit a round nose so you dont have to pay import costs and you still have a great lookin car

Good idea. But i'm not real mechanical :(

A bit more info from wiki:

The Clubman in Australia

The Leyland Mini LS was produced by Leyland Australia from 1977 to 1978.For the Australian market, all Minis including the Van gained the Clubman front in 1971 although the car was still basically a Mk I behind the A-Pillar.[39] The Australian van thus became the only Clubman Van produced anywhere in the world.[39] From mid 1971 to the end of 1972, a Clubman GT version of the sedan was produced.[40] This was essentially a Cooper S in Clubman body, equipped with the same 7.5-inch (190 mm) disc brakes, twin fuel tanks, and twin-carb Cooper S 1275 cc engine. Australian Clubman sedans were marketed under the Morris Mini Clubman name when introduced in August 1971,[41] and as the Leyland Mini, without the Clubman name, from February 1973.[42]

Like Clovus has said, there are PLENTY of round nose minis in Australia. Try carsales.com.au for a start...

A little bit of history... We never had a "proper" mkII mini in Oz when compared to the English cars. That is not to say the mini did not evolve in Australia, but it did not follow the same path as in the UK.
Amongst other things... The latest of the round nose minis in Oz had "mkII" tail lights and burst proof door latches (to comply with Australian Design Rules). The introduction of the 'Clubman' basically saw the same car but with a Clubby front on it - Clubman front, Burst proof doors with external hinges and wind-up widows with quarter vents and mkII tail lights.

Keep looking mate (maybe try a little harder) and good luck finding a nice little car :-
