Hi all,

I have an 83 mafair 998 with a crank breather as shown

Posted Image

Can the breather be moved and replaced on the block with a simple inspection cover ?? I have seen in the minispares catalogue a breather on the timing chain cover, is this the same thing breather wise??

Thanks,

Graham

I'd consider it a better location than the one you have on the tappet chest cover. All the pushrod holes mean the tappet chest communicates well with the rocker cover, and the oil filler/breather, so positive ventilation there won't extract as well from the crankcase: where the blow-by fumes and oil seals are. Both would be better than either one on its own.

No you don't, it's a tapet chest cover with a breather in...

I think Ethel was trying to say removing it won't be too much of a problem, but best to leave it, adding an extra one to would be better. They had them on the clutch housing from 88 onwards and the timing chain plate, but no tthe injections. The 1275 don't have the tapet chest covers you see...

Hi,

I take it the timing chain cover breather was an extra one?? What will adding another to the chest cover provide the running of the engine with, better performance or just better running??

Thanks,

Graham

Honestly... I don't know.

Someone else will have to explain the benfits.
