Mini 1989 F Reg
Er so yeh, my drivers door wont shut.
It just bangs against the door stay thing that its supposed to latch onto...
It seems i need a new door mechanism thing...i dont know what to call it....you know the sqaure box thing.
Does this means changing the locking barrels as well?
Whats this part i need called? and where do i find one? Obviously this is a problem im looking to solve today.

It's not half latched is it? Push the slot in the catch towards the outside of the door then pull the handle as if opening the door.

Does the latch in the door align with the catch in the B post? Might just want adjusting. Also check the door lock isn't locked.

You mean a door lock?

They're quite easy to strip and fix, but try all the above advice first, probably nothing wrong with yours.
And no, keep the same key/lock/handle... /door/mini.

I had exactly the same problem a couple of weeks ago and it did turn out to be the lock mechanism as per the link in bobs post above. If you look at the minispares picture, the spring to the upper right in the picture had snapped in mine. I bought a second hand lock mechanism for a tenner.

I used to have this same problem, as a quick fix you can pull the door handle which relieves the pressure on the locking mechanism in the door and with a small key just flick the latch round so the opened end of the latch can lock into the hoop. Then it should hopefully shut!
After I sprayed a bit of WD40 into the mechanism which must've free'd up a sticking spring and it was fine after!
