Fuel Gauge Not Working?

'91 Studio 2

Hi everyone well i took my Mini out today to put some petrol in i put £15 worth in with the needle below the red mark since then the needle hasnt moved at all it's still in the empty postion what could it possibly be? Does it have a fuse? Dont know if having to stood for a week would make any differnce?

is the wire still connected to the tank, sometimes it can pull off, I did this the other day putting a load of stuff in the boot!

No checked that wires still connected plus the boot has never been used :)

bridge the 2 wires up and the guage should work if not then you have a problem when bridge the guage should go too full use a bit of wire or solder wire etc to link them together

bridge the 2 wires up and the guage should work if not then you have a problem when bridge the guage should go too full use a bit of wire or solder wire etc to link them together

We have a similar problem but now think that it might be the gauge rather than the sender unit - it is always showing full - would this be the 'default' position or does this suggest a problem with the gauge or a fuse ??

If it always shows full there is a good chance that it is earthing out somewhere. Trace and check all the wireing

What year is the car you are talking about?


Late 1978 standard and original 998cc although it was completely stripped for rebuild and respray. gauge worked when we got it back from the restorers but soon went to full and stayed there
