Hi

I have blasted the upper and lower radiator cowls, and am left with a nice blasted surface (with some pitting due to rust). I have some gloss black POR-15 paint, and also some black high temperature paint.

Anyway, is POR 15 suitable? It will get hot, but not as hot as the manifold. I would like to use POR 15 as its corrosion protection is excellent. However, would this withstand the temperatures around the radiator?

I also have gloss black radiator paint, but this goes on quite messy from the rattle can as it is quite thick.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

John

Por15 should be fine, it doesn't get that hot really and will give you a nice finish.

Your POR will be fine, I have sprayed radiator cowls with aerosols & standard 2k for years & have never had any problems with the paint cracking or flaking off. Just make sure if using standard paint to etch prime & prime before the top coat.

I did my cowl and other parts with etch primer, primer and gloss black aerosols from Halfrauds. The only issue ive had is water marks/staining. They dont wipe off! Should I have used an additional lacquer to harden the surface?

Aerosol's don't tend to harden off as well as normal 2k paint. You could have flattened it back & lacquered it just to give it a bit more protection.

Oh ok Frog I'll give that a try. I fancy having another go anyway.

Just one coat of lacquer or two?

More importantly, is it going to cause problems with the lacquer if the components get hot ie Rocker Cover?

Thanks mate.

It shouldn't do, Like I say I have painted engine's etc with 2k paint & lacquer & have never had any major concerns.

I have just sanded mine down andsprayed over 3 coats of red oxide primer, then 3 coats of normal spraypaint and then finishing off with a couple of coats of laquer to protect from any stonechips! :D
