hi guys & gals

im currently stripping my Mini down ready for a respray and to do up its exterior, (mirrors grille bumpers n so on) so last night as i was taking an angle grinder to near enough every rust infected bolt and looked at my immensy small sander and partly broken grit blaster & compressor i though it might be usefull to look at some local compainies that soda/grit/sand blast in the west midlands. found a few and i plan to give them a ring tommorow before uni n get some prices. just wanted to know if anyone has used soda or grit blasting before from any companies and how good/bad were the results.

any tips and tricks on derusting would be appreciated :shifty:

Thanks Sammmmmmm

i do soda blasting, use chemical stripper first to keep costs down.
great for getting paint off but doesn't touch rust.

be aware it aint cheap though as soda is quite expensive compared to other blasting media and it can only be used once.

My next door neighbour has a soda blasting business ( handy really ), to do a shell you're looking at an average of 700, problem is, as mentioned above, it wont take the rust out, however it will show it all, which you will obviously cut out and then replace with real metal...

You don't want to use sand/grit blasting on whole panels as it will easily distort them.

Best bet would be to get all the seams and underneath done with it and then DA the flat panels.

nah dont use blasting nd stuff, the great way is buy some wire brush drill bits or a knotted wire bit that fits to an angle grinder bcus they will get off rust and paint and wont damage the metal and theyre quite cheap to get and simple to use =D
