Please give your topic a title that quickly describes your problem. Just putting 'Help my Mini doesn't work' is useless to anyone trying to help.

I'm going to try and fit a 3rd brake light so I've been looking in the boot for the wires to link up to and I've found a lonlely little purple/white tracer wire with a spade connector that just ends in the boot...
Anyone know what it's for? Could it be the reason my interior courtesy light doesn't work?!
Thanks for shedding any light (brake, interior or otherwise!) on this...

Purple with a white tracer is usually used on the door courtesy light switches and runs from the switches to the interior light.
I'm not familiar with later minis, were some of them fitted with boot lights?
As the wire is purple/white it may have something to do with your lack of light.

From memory that wire should go to a switch that senses when the boot is open/closed. The ECU uses it for both the alarm system and is probably coupled to the interior light circuit too, but shouldn't stop the light from operating.

If the wire in question looks like it extends to the offside top corner of the boot opening then Graeme is spot on - for the alarm...
For your particular issue just tap into the feed from the existing brakelights...
