Ah, rewind to the summer term of 1989 at Coventry Polytechnic, where the Final Year of the BEng(Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering, and the presentation of group projects: Enter INTERLOK Man, (on video), and Mr Work Man, who needs an interlocking growable tool box.

Should it have wheels : Yes and No. as an interlok option
Space for a welder : as an optional interlocking module
Size of drawers : Optional

Can you clear a few questions up for me - will this be a complete (all in one) or detachable top and bottom?

19 Y/O ex Product Designer

Y - as its always good to be able to bring your tools to the vehicle your working on - but as the others have said, locking wheels would be good.
N - again, I like to move my stuff about so my welder is already on wheels.
D - I'd like a mixture, some for the smaller tools i.e. punches/small screw drivers etc and larger ones for hammers/ball joint splitters/bigger sockets etc.
D - again comes down to whether its a complete chest - on my old tool box ive got six small ones, then three larger on the top, and then about five on the bottom I think.
C - as big as you can get

I think you need a mixture of deep drawers at the bottom for angle grinder, sander, air tools and so on, then some medium drawers for socket sets. (I keep mine in it's box so the draw is a medium one), then I've got some little drawers at the top, for, little things. I'm surprised as when I got my roll cab how much easier it was, but also how I need more, I don't want to pile shallow tools up in a deep drawer, but there aren't enough shallow drawers:(

I've also got an old filling trolly (From a skip outside an office.) It has a cupboard underneath that I shove stuff in, though personally I prefer drawers.
I keep looking at the ball race drawer runners in B&Q, but I'm aware I'd never make a square metal drawer box without a proper sheet metal brake / bending thing. If I tried to make them out of wood, half the space could be taken up with my poor joinery skills!

Good luck. I'd like to see some photos when your'e done.
Dan.
