Still going although not much use this year.
R65 box has started to death whine so I have a replacement ready, but this time with a 3.7fd.
I had some selector issues early on during the initial build and then again a couple years later when I rebuilt it which I feel may have contributed to its current near death condition.

Due to rebuilding a land rover and a house move early next year I imagine it will be tucked away for a while.

haha cheers, sounds a bit nasty! I'm on the edge of a k conversion and wanted to also use a metro box. Fair enough, good to still see that's it's about though :-)

I would happily do the conversion again with the r65. If aiming for big power from the offset I would consider the pg1 but that brings its own weight penaltie and seem over the top.

I will be running my vvc160 through the r65 to see how well it lasts before going to the effort of converting.
I believe some of the saxo boyos turbo their vts cars with essentially the same gearbox and have no trouble ?

Great, well that gives me hope! I was planning to just go stock 1.8 vvc, so I'll probably just try it out! and I think your on to something with the saxo box, as 5th gears can be swapped?

How was it on 10's, and cruising revs at 70 ? Sorry for all the q's  :shy:

With the 3.9fd box its about 4300rpm at 70. Not ideal but it gets there rapid.

3.7 should be ever so slightly better.

Minis tucked away now the gritters are out, not that it's had much use anyway... Only 300 miles since MOT.

On another note I finished my other toy car, and at the moment the mud seems more fun than the tarmac!

Now summer has come to an end ive got the mini ready for its MOT O_O .

All the ball joint gaiters were buggered after only 2000 miles and the steering rack has play in the near side joint, third steering rack has been ordered in anticipation of the MOT failure on friday.

Im hoping to attend combe end of the month if all goes to plan.
