Countdown to bungle appearing ......it's not vosa per say you need to be wary of, you will need to submit the vehicle for an sva / iva inspection and test......if you do your homework, and build the car professionally and in full compliance you have no real concerns .
If you mash it together in your moms back garden with a 'it looks ok, so we'll be fine'' approach, you're about to waste an awful lot if money !

Just fit it and update the V5 thats what all the other 1000's of people have done, they might come back and ask for one of either
A reciept of purchas on headed paper from a garage including engine no., size and fuel type, etc...
An inspection from someone like AA or RAC
An inspection from insurance
Writen confirmation from the manafacturer showing engine number and size
But thats easy enough to sort.
And before anyone comes on here screaming about IVA, or similar just tell them to jog on, from all the 10, 000s of people that have fitted flip fronts, bulkhead boxes, modified subframes for different engines, how many have ever had to have an IVA test???

this is how i see it.. please correct me if im wrong
I think the SVA shows as 'advisory' to the MOT tester.
But its just an advisory... If there were any complications during the mot test Vosa would look at it. To view the advisory you need access to the unique test number or the V5 number.

Just for the record.... I now have insurers asking for evidence of sva / IVA compliance
An insurer that I have been with for a very long time and is fully aware if the r1 conversion.
it's not just the government bodies you need to worm around, the insurers aregetting clever / shittier

Yup, I know of a couple of land rover guys who've broken their projects rather than risk the wrath of VOSA/BIVA/IVA. They've hit the landy guys and the kit car blokes hard. Once they've finished bullying them they'll be looking for another group to justify themselves with..........lets hope its not us!!!

this is what i'm worried about, i'm not keen on the idea of having the dvla etc etc being a pain in the arse as if the car isn't safe when it is
lets face it, its only because they want everyone to have modern enviro friendly cars

Why don't you add the cost of an IVA into the budget?. It is actually passable.

I bet out of all the minis that have done bulkhead mods, etc... you SVA/IVA warriers cant name over 5 minis that have had to have the tast! bet you cant even name one at that!
I really wouldnt be that worried about the IVA test, the SVA test has been arround for a very long time and the minis have never been pestered from that.

you will be best to find out for yourself on this one mate. I bought a mini roadster that had its roof chopped off and was advised that it would need an IVA. Turns out it didn't as it isn't classed as radically altered. To be honest, I was surprised that a roof chop isn't considered as "radical" but there you go. I've been happily ndriving my roadster for a while now, but would probly scrapped it if I'd followed previous advice.

with every thing i have read on line I'm very surprised hacking a roof off doesn't modify the monocoque
did you get it in writing if future problems ?
