Hi i have a 1990 998 rover mini
I was wondering if i can fit twin su carbs on my car
What size carbs would be required? As i am not 100% on which carb i have now it has the adjuster underneath and float bowl on the left side!!
Will this give a litlle more power?(obviously i am gonna be taking it to rolling road if this can be done)
Can i just get 1 carb, twin inlet mainfold, and a link kit to link mine and new carb ?
Or will it be better to pick up a set of carbs and overhaul them?
If i do decide to do it will i have to modify the bulkhead to fit or will the inlet manifold be slightly smaller to make it so that i can fit the carbs in the tiny hole at the back as my single carb at the moment doesn't seem to have much space

Su Carbs

To be honest, you'll be better off with a Stage 1 kit, which you can buy / make up from ebay bits cheap.
Probably not as cheap as a set of leaky twin carbs but its going to be better for you car.

Don't bother with twin carbs - that's not your best way forward. Good inlet manifold/air cleaner and a decent exhaust using the carb you have will be fine. Then you are looking at a better head - then a camshaft change - and then possibly a larger single carb. That's the way forward!

Woah now, I wouldn't go that far. I rather like the throttle response on twin carbs. Nice to drive with if you feel like hooning about. But, for a first addon go with exhaust etc.

Twin carbs look very cool indeed, but without a stage one kit there will be little (if any) benefit.
It sounds like you have a HS4 carb (1.5"), but a twin carb setup for a 998 would usually use two HS2 carbs which are 1.25".
As for buying a manifold and another carb, it would be difficult as the twin manifold will use a left and right carb, which will have the float bowl and throttle linkages on opposite side.
If you want to improve the performance of your 998 a bit then put the twins further down the list and look at Stage One, cylinder head, camshaft. Normally in that order.

Look for restrictions within the system.......
1) Air filter
2) Exhaust system
3) Inlet manifold
4) Cylinder head
5) Ignition system (ECU if money etc available)
