hello wondering if anyone could shed some light...

There is some wrong with the front left handside suspension...

just wanting to find out what the problem is before i go spending money on the wrong parts.

symptons: - every time the car goes over bumps, there is a loud squeaking noise... drives me nuts!
- The car is lower on that side to..
- the car also drifts to the left...

I've been told it may be the Bushs which needs replacing...

but maybe i need new shock absorbers to?

i'd appreciate any help!

The collapsed suspension will be due to rubber springs/dounts collapsing from old age.
It advisable to replace both sides at the same time, although to do it properly you need to remove the top arm and compress the ‘spring’ to get them in and out safely.

The squeaking will be a knuckle joint on the end of the alloy trumpet that’s run dry and worn though the cup it seats in the top arm. Pretty simple to replace at the same time its all apart doing the donuts.

Yep, although ovoid the non-genuine ones like the plage, as there are some really bad copy/pattern ones about that aren’t up to it and just fail in a matter of weeks.

I’m not to sure on the mra ones, probably good ones like the rest of his stock, although they might be slightly cheaper via his website.

The one above is more genuine than the Dunlop item, the AVON donut is made in the UK and is made in tooling that was initially developed in 1957, when Avon were making the development donuts, once they went into production the Dunlop item took over because they undercut Avon on Price :D( The type you should be worried about are the ones made in China / India which do have some serious issues.

Although these do sit a little higher than the Dunlop items, the Dunlop item is only available now as old stock, Dunlop have stated that they will not produce any more ;)(

I would however suggest that you replace the knuckle joints on both sides as well as both front donuts to keep the suspension on an even keel, it is a lot safer that way.

If the knuckle joints have worn right through the plastic cup, check the bottom of the hole in the arm is still a simple drill point shape. If it has a concave radius in the bottom, it will not support the new knuckle.

Is this going to be a better idea to buying this type of donut rather than a Avon donut?

Dude, go to MRA's site and buy the cones from there. For one they are cheaper (as ebay is crap for new items) and two I now happily support MRA.

Also sadly you will find you car will drive iffy if you only overhaul the one side. New cones will be MUCH larger than your current old ones. So you should do BOTH side of the car (both fronts).

BUT!

Before you start blowing money out your wallet hole, check the cones are the problem. Then you can start hating your car.
