Hi
I have just purchase a new SU electronic fuel pump, in place of the electric one with points. I have put in onto the car i am restoring. Anyway, the while fuel system is new, new lines etc. the lines have had no fuel in them previously as they are new as mentioned After fitting the pump, it seems to take ages (the charcteristic clicking). I have waited for at least 10 minutes, and the float chamber is stillempty. Should the pump take this long, or even longer to pump fuel to the float chamber?

I am sure the fuel lines are clear, and there are no kinks in the lines etc.

Any advice would be great.

thanks
john

John, take no offense but I had the same thought as Adam. Could you have accidentally plumbed the fuel inlet hose to the pump's outlet?

Hi
I discovered what the problem was! I drained the fuel, and then inspectd the whole fuel line and pipes etc. I disconnected the fuel pipe at the pump (from the tank), and tried to blow and i couldn't blow through the pipe!

Afte taking the tank out, it seems that the powdercoating process for the tank blocked the outlet tube on the front. Silly that i didn't check, but I no reason to as i asked the powdercoater t not get any inside this tube!

But anyway, I have now cleared it, and the pump now operates and pumped fuel to the float chamber in a few seconds.............

What I have learned.................never take anything for granted and its the simplest of things which can go wrong!

Thanks
John

I'm glad you found the problem and were able to fix it easily. Thanks also for posting what you found to be at fault.
