hi all,
i cleaned my bulkhead up recently, all the rust if off but there some pitting that been feft behind in the usual place (by the master cylinders)

question is, will a few coats of high build cover thus up or is a thin skim of filler a better idea?

cheers all

We have got a similar problem and i will try high build primer with multiple coats, flattening back in between each coat. I would use filler but cant be bothered trying to sand it back. Its your choice.

high build primer will not cover big pit marks. it will sink best you do a light skim of filler to be honest

High build primer is only really for covering prepping marks ie sandpaper scratches. Depending on the quality of the primer it only really covers P120 scratches without sinkage

High build will not cover that. I would suggest a light skim of filler beforehand if you want a good finnish.

How about using upol's spray filler? Re-face? Sprays on like primer, looks really bad at first but rubs down so smooth.

High build would fill that in, but it would take ages, lots of coats with flatting inbetween, and would take days. Skim it over with a thin layer of filler, then prime. Apply as little filler as you can whilst still filling in the pits, there's no point plastering it on then spending an hour rubbing it all off again.

Isopon P38 easy sand is pretty good, but then again so is chemical metal if you catch it after about 10 mins, also heat proof and very strong when fully set.

I would be tempted to put some stopper in there then rub it back, Top stop gold is very good. You can then etch prime, a couple of coats of primer, flatten back & paint.

2nded on the top stop gold. Made by upol. Don't use the 1k type stopper in a tube, it shrinks.
