Hey all. Sorry if this is a stupid question, my speedo has gone a bit mental and doesn't really tell me any speed at all. If i swap it for a second hand one how do i make the mileage right? I've got one from a mate but its about 11000 miles ahead of mine :) I've had a look and can't find a way of swapping them and making th numbers add up. Any help would be super appreciated

you dont.

if it were me, i'd just take a pic of the speedos side by side, and keep the old one.

alternatively you take it apart and get the "old" mileage on it. I'm not 100% sure of the legality of doing that, plus if you get it *slightly* out, it'll look like it's been clocked.

why not just take a record of the mileage on the old speedo and a record of the new speedos mileage so it doesnt have to be clocked and future owners can have accurate mileage and not get confused

Exactly what I would do....and just did in fact ( except with a Honda Civic ) The replacement one has 100,000 more than the old one....so worth taking a pic side by side and keeping old one.

thats all i was scared of, if i change the mileage and somebody acuses me of clocking it (mind you its got more mileage than mine and i dont think anybody would add miles). so what do people do if they buy a brand new unit then, just take pics as evidence? just wondered the legality of the whole thing if i get pulled or for insurance etc

in the past i have used and old speedo cable pluged in and cut it to a few inch long then put it in a bettery drill on reverse. some times closing the drill chuck up to a point and holding it in where the cable would go also works.
