Basically it's how far the point that joins to the hub of your wheel, is from the centre of the wheel line. Deep dish wheels for example would have negative offset.

Hope this helped.

Greg.

from reading what guessworks said there, is it as simple as i could try the wheel on and see how it fitted because all the problems with having the incorrect offset are mostly visable?

12" wheels are generally much better than 13" on a Mini and less liable to cause rapid wheel bearing failure. You need a very low profile tyre with 13" in order to clear the rear radius arms.

I have 195 45 13 on my turbo, before that I had 175 50 13 and the wheel bearing wear is usually down to poor quality parts or installation, I certainly would not agree that 13" wheels and tyres increase the wear dramatically if at all.

I have previously fitted 175 60 13" on to the front and rear of a mini, makes it very tall in the gears, but pretty good results.

Sorry I had better add that you would need to do some work on the radius arms and the brackets.

if you are using 175 50 13 then nothing has to be done, however if the diameter is larger then you may need to reshape the outer bracket, and in some cases a little bit of polishing on the inside edge of the arm is required.
