Hi i'm currently selling my fully restored 1976 Mini 1000 LE and i'm wanting to advertise it to the japanese market.

Does anyone know how I could go about this?
Has anyone done it?
Whats the best way to go about doing it?
Does anyone have any contacts?
Who do I need to speak to?

All advise and help is welcome.

Many thanks, Ben.

I am sure your car is really good... but.... I wouldnt bother selling into Japan.

Japan seem to be selling plenty of there cars off, so there cant be that much demand internally.

The cars that they are selling are often in absolute mint condition (I have one from there).

So.... unless there is somethings special about yours (rare, cooper s, police car etc) I would say that it would be hard to sell into Japan.

Just my opinion.

jonjostar: I've got my mini advertised on both of those sites already, and they are english sites. I was looking for some sort of japanese mini site. Thanks for your help though.

cobrav8: Oh right I see, well mine is pretty rare and is in excellent condition as I have just finished restoring it, so it is completely rust free, new interior, engine overhauled etc so I wouldnt mind trying to see if japan has any interest. Its not just an everyday mini, real collectors item. How did you go about buying one from japan? Do you know how I could go about selling mine to them?

Thanks for your help and advice so far. Keep it coming.

Try contacting Turtle Trading of Japan through Mini Machine, they should be able to help you and translate, etc.

"Turtle Trading M-Machine are proud to link to our sister company in Japan.
Turtle Trading source many classic cooper panels and parts from M-Machine, Darlington, England."

 Nice example for sale here:

I've got a contact in the USA who deals with minis so its currently being advertised over there already.

Thanks very much for those links, they look very helpful and a step in the right direction. I will have a look and see what I can sort out.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Minis in Japan are much more expensive compared to the uk, so selling to Japan would mean you would make a lot more money

Maybe older cars are more expensive. I have seen a few websites auctioning really good cars - and they are cheap.

My car was imported into New Zealand by someone else from Japan - and was really cheap.

Give it a go for sure. I just think they have perfect cars over there already.

Isn't the Japanese car tax system geared to encourage punters to buy a brand new car every few years? The Minis now coming out of Japan were probably all new imports that are just too uneconomic to run in Japan as a result..
