i have measured from the rear of the wheel rim to the hub mounting face and its 53mmm (using 2 steel rules) does anyone else have a measurement similar to this from their wheels?
i have measured a 5x10 kn minilight style at 90mm
and a minator 6x10 which i think was 87mm
with a spacer it would be possible to make the golden figure of 53mm but im wondering if there may be a wheel better suited to the task.
i would prefer not to get into a conversation about big spacers and affecteing handling etc if possible, i am aware of the effects.
please help! pics of wheels would also be usefull, thanks.

on my old mini i had a set of those 5x10 coopers s style wheels available from minispeed, and my dad still has a set on his car. essentially they are a wheel with a big offset and a built in spacer in the back so that you can use tye wheel with 8.4 discs and calipers.

what do you meen by better suited to the task, what is the task?, is it purely to allow the use of the 8.4 brakes . what type of mini would they be used on,

what i meant by more suited, is a wheel with allot of offset, not the comparatively flat couple i have tried already.
the car its to go on is a fast road/ track day car.
i havnt tried a wellar, but must admit i would rather not to be honest, im not a huge fan.
any suggestions for a wheel to try guys????

i have used the cooper s style wheels (the ones i described earlier) for years on my other minis and had no trouble at all, one in everyday use and one for track days. no wheel bearing fails or other such problems.
spacers are perfectly safe, if they are decent quality (i.e. not the ones with the bolt on stud extensions) you would encounter problems if the wheel nuts were loose, but thats the same with or without spacers.
i will let you know when i find some rims to do the job. thanks anyway gents.

you could get a machinist to take the 8.4 disks down to 7.5 and buy cheap minispares cooper s calipers all for under £200
i bought there 4 pots and machined down a new set of pagid 4 groove disks, stopping powere is fantastic yet cost less than a cooper s setup

and had a set of cast 4 pots from mini spares years ago on my first mini with turned down vented discs and can pretty much say the same for them, they didnt overheat they just didnt stop too well. i MY opinion small discs just dont cut ita on a highly tuned mini (not that the one i drive now is highly tuned sadly)
so besides the cost as i stated earlier, i just dont get on with them, hence prefering to go for 8.4" setup and spacers.
i have never heard of any accidents caused by spacers and i have been in the trade for quite a while now, if they were that unsafe im sure all the manufacturers would be in serious legal trouble or would stop producing them
anyway were getting off subject here, all i wanted to know is if anyone is aware of some 10" alloys with big offsets?

dont need a spacer if your brakes are outside your wheels......
