hey all, just curious, i was under the impression that the largest you could bore the cylinder of a standard metro engine was 1380, and even that was pushing it, after that the walls are to thin? yet im just watching this http://www.youtube.c...feature=related where he says he has a 1430. but it looks like a standard block. just a little confused lol. Thanks all

1430 is a 1380 bore, which has a modified crankshaft to increase the stroke (how far down the bore the piston travels), thus increasing ccs.

Ah yes.. But if you have straight bored a 1275 block you can go to 74mm bore...73.5 being 1380cc

i understand about the rebore and stroke and would that be an 81mm stroke then.... could you put an 1100 crank into a 998 to increase the stroke or does it not work like that??

on a stroked crank, does the piston not rise the same distace as down and so would need a skim off the top of the piston to stop it rising past the block surface?? how would that effect the piston action or would it??

sorry im not hijacking the thread but just trying to get more info on the topic for us....

i think itll be an 84mm stroke, youll need to use "s" rods, as the journals smaller, and yes, the pistons will need machining as theyll sit proud of the block.

1425 uses a 74.7mm piston. can be stroked to 1595cc.

it's a handgrenade with the pin out though...

Lots of torque and power......untill it goes bang!!! I wonder if thats why no one builds them??? Well not many anyway...

Increasing the size of the cylinders and pistons, thus increasing the engine size.

1100 engines ARE 998's with a stroked crank. They're the same block, different crankshaft.

It's the machining of the cylinder walls to increase their diameter and therefore overall displacement. :D
