Sounds good so does this mean effectively everything is VAT free?

so are you offering 17.5% or 14.89%?

you could be false advertising here

eg, if a part is £100 plus vat = £117.50
so if you give 17.5% discount off the £100 it is £82.50 plus vat = £96.94

but if you are actually wanting to take away the VAT cost to the customer, you should be giving 14.89% so that the £100.00 becomes £85.11 plus vat = £100.00

i think by the sounds of it he is taking the 17.5% off the total+VAT so theoretically you are right with the 14>89% but not everyone will understand how the discount is worked out like that

If the discount offered is 17.5% before VAT then it is exactly that.

£100 + vat [17.5%] £17.50 = £117.50

£100 - discount [17.5%] = £82.50 + vat [17.5%] £14.44 (Actually less of your cash going to Mr Cameron) = £96.94


Just to sense check £117.50 [less 17.5%] £20.56 = £96.94
