Okay, so until I've passed I'm not paying my insurance for my mini, I'm just driving round in my dads car then I'll pay for my insurance on my car when I pass. This also doesn't put pressure on me to get the mini completely road worthy that quickly.

Anyway this was a month back now but still thought I'd share my good fortune.
Phoned up my dad's insurance company (can't remember who they are now :/ ) and added me to his insurance policy for the duration of August. It cost me £40, not cheap but not too bad. I was planning on just re adding myself every month or something like that. Anyway, when the papers came through a week later I had been added for £40 for the duration of the insurance (ending in may). So I got insured on my dads car for 10 months for £40, which means I'll also be insured dad's car when I've passed too :) (the insurance doesn't specify that it's for a provisional licence only)
Not bad huh for a 17 year old on 1.8Tdi Ford Focus? :errr:
If only they make the same mistake when I insure my mini :P

you still need to inform them you no longer have a provisional license once you pass your test

Indeed what bungle said ! The information you originally gave was that you were a provisional licence holder (which will be recorded on file don't you worry). If you crash, they usually ask to see a copy of licence, but in any case you'll be alone, so they'll ask to see the 'teachers' licence too, and too bad, you failed to declare an important fact.

Sorry, to ******* on your joy, but insurance companies have got US by the short and curleys.

BUT YES you still got a good deal !!!!

I wanted to add my 17 year old son as a provisional licence holder on to our mk3 1.8 cavaliers policy and the *******s they call adrian flux refused, and any other quote was £2500 plus a year.

Eventually found provisional marmalade insurance for £256 for 3 months.

No as I said, I never said that I was on a provisional licence. The phone call with them lasted about 5 minutes and the guy I had sounded a bit dippy. I've got it all in paper which is more than enough :)

Okaay my mistakes everyone.
Just checked with dad and he said I do have to tell them when I pass but he checked with the guy and I won't have to pay more until I next renew, which I won't be.

I phoned up to tell my insurance that id passed, and they didnt care.
When i phoned my mums company to tell them id got a pass plus they want to charge me £25, and said i wouldn't be insured if i didn't pay.
:)

Insurance companies are dippy, stupid money grabbers, im surprised you got off that cheap.
