Model: Austin Mini
Year: 1989
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):
Heater blower motor is about to die completely. It works intermittently. I can turn the power switch on and disconnect the inlet pipe and spin the fan and it will work for a few minutes then stop.

First question is, can the motor be removed without disassembling the heater core?

2nd question, I have access to a auto salvage yard. I checked and there are no minis to take parts from >_< . Anyone know of a car with a blower motor that will work as a replacement?

I'm about to complete the same job. Looking on Haynes book of total fiction, it looks like, you drop the unit, disconnect the water pipes, spill coolant over the carpet, disconnect the wiring, take it all apart.

I suspect that the act of taking it apart, cleaning up the bearing and communtator, and brushes, will be enough.

However I'm seen them on ebay, and all mini forums have some one breaking a mini or three.

Pretty much a 2 hour job, just finished - heater works now. What a badly designed piece of 'engineering'. I won't do a how to, but basically to take it apart remove one side of the heater box (how many screws ?) remove fan assembly (3 screws) spray carb spray on communator, remove excess fluid with cloth. remove the desbris from inside the case - stones etc. Test the motor - mind fingers and thumbs, Mine worked after this : put it back together - the flap at the front is a pain.

Thanks. I just did mine using the same process you did and mine works! Thanks for the encouragement.
