Hey,
i am sorry that i have to be posting this on a UK forum but i have no where else to go :|
What would you pay for a 1978 leyland LS 998. the car has only one very small rust spot and the interior is in 90% perfect condition and it only has 50,000kms on it. the only problem is that it was taken of the road 20 years ago because the man that owns it did not want it getting damaged and it hasnt been started in 12 years. what would any fellow aussies expect to pay for this?

Hi from a fellow Aussie
Pretty hard to give an estimate without seeing the car and taking it for a run. The LS 1000 is, in my opinion, the most attractive Clubman Leyland Australia built (I have the 1275 model which I don't think looks quite as nice because of the bigger wheels). It is now quite rare to find one in original condition and this adds considerably to its value. Good original or faithfully restored examples fetch upwards of $12000. Given the apparent condition and low mileage of the one you are looking at, if it can be brought back to near showroom condition without major work, I would expect to pay $5000-$8000. If it is going to require a full respray and/or engine rebuild, $3000-$4000 is probably a more realistic figure. Really, you've got to balance the cost of restoration against the asking price and the seller should understand this. This is definitely a car that deserves be restored to original spec and cherished.
N.B. A mint condition 1963 Aussie Morris Mini 850 recently sold for $65000!!!

Without any more detail or pictures it is very difficult to say... It could be anything from $2000 - $4000 if it really is in good condition.
Take into consideration, because it has been sitting so long, you'll probably be replacing/reconditioning 90% of the braking system as well as things like a good service, tyres, etc...
