Just added some new Gaz dampers to the car - done 3 corners, and it was reletively smooth (partily thanks to help here).

However on one of the front top mounts, the nut will not tighten beyond a certain point and just spins!

it is reletively tight but, i want to make sure.

Whats causing this?

cheers

Craig

Dont say that Bungle!

They seemed fine, i gave both the bolt and nut a cleam before fitting!

Do you think i have stripped the thread?

The top one is the bit that's attached to that plate, so its a bolt welded onto it isn't it.

Don't see anything other than the thread being knackered, :D

unless the thread in the bolt is knackered, but I would have thought it would cause the nut to not work anywhere on the bolt.

Just out of interest as I recently fitted some gaz shocks.

On the rears, do your blue boot/covers at the top of the shocks touch the inner wing?
Mine are just touching on one side, and on the other it was a real struggle to get the piston through the hole in the top of the arch.

Also, the lower stud on the radius arm. When putting the shock on, did you have any issues with the subframe being in the way. So when you put the eye onto the stud, the body of the shock touched the subframe before it was at the right angle to slide onto the stud? (if you understand me, :P )?

Sorry, sounds like you've stripped it.

Try a new nut on there.

The blue boot may touch, i ll check when im next down at the garage. I had some issues fitting the damper to the radius arm pin, but a bit of wiggling and jiggling got there. i fitted it upright as it is on the car, so had no issues with clearence from the subframe. And the top fitted straight in!

Ok now i cant get the nut off, it just spins!

Looks like its a new set of brackets - 2 questions ----

How do i get the nut off - do those nut splitters work?

And secondly, how are the top dampner bracket held on. I see they have 4 bolts, but is there captive nuts the other side or?

Yeah, I did mine upright too, but had to pry them onto the stud with a big screwdriver, :D

Try getting a screwdriver or pry bar behind the nut or washer and lever it towards the end of the stud while undoing it - that may get it moving, otherwise, undo the 4 bolts for the bracket - they do have a captive thread behind - and the bottom damper mounting nut and tackle it off the car where you have much better access. You will then be able to grind/cut/split the nut off,

I;d just unbolt the mounting plate and damper at this point and fix it in the garage. Just in case you're still working on it on the car.

sounds like a plan, removing the plate!

What size is the nut, so i can try with a new one!

Oh and if i have stripped the threat on the bolt - is the only option to buy a whole new bracket?

I had a look at the uprated brackets, but it seems the pin/bolt has been moved up, so if the car is lowered you can still use standard dampers. I guess i will have to buy the standard ones as it was a bit of a stretch getting the shortened dampers on!
