Hi

I had an idea and not 100% sure if I will go through with it. I want to wrap my roof in carbon fibre but don't want to spend £450 on a proper carbon fibre roof so was thinking about wrapping it.

Has anyone got any experience with this?

I have been chatting to a really nice guy called Andrew at Carbon FX (www.carbonfx-ltd.co.uk) who can supply the vinyl for £140.00. He uses a company called APA Spa (http://www.apaspa.co...1/apa-wrapcast/) as they give a better result than the 3m. Has anyone used this company or the type of vinyl? The cost of him supplying it seems cheaper than the 3m that you find on eBay so if I was to go ahead with this, I will most likely use him.

I was also considering wrapping the arches in carbon fibre so that they match and possibly the rear number plate light. What do you guys think of this? My car would be flame red if that helps.

Finally, he has quoted me to supply the material to tint my windows (70% light through) but it seems very expensive compared to what you can get on eBay for the same light levels. Has anyone tried the eBay stuff?

Thanks in advance

If your self tinting the windows, just buy the cheapy 10-15quid films. Because if your doing it yourself and you ******* it up, its only 15 quid. Ive had halfrauds tints on my car before and they look fine, didnt peel or bubble (and i put them on the car in the dark at 1am )

Right.....

http://www.ecfibregl...-14-oz-tin.aspx Wax 1 tin will do more then you need.
http://www.ecfibregl...ease-agent.aspx PVA 1L will do more then you need.
http://www.ecfibregl...5-mt-width.aspx 2m should be enough
http://www.ecfibregl...1-mtr-wide.aspx 4m should be enough.
http://www.ecfibregl...-kg-a-pack.aspx id get two packs.

Wax the roof up, buff it off, 3/4 coats should be fine on a painted panel, you could probably get away with less, but well, better not to take chances.
Pva the roof, its like a gloopy liquid, somewhere between milkshake and water. sponge this on, don`t brush it on. 3/4 coats let it dry between.

that shows skinning, follow it bar scuffing up of course.

When its all dry! You can pull the carbon off the roof, clean the roof and underside of the carbon with water. bolt the panel on to the roof in each corner through the guttering with some M4 nuts and bolts. will be hardly noticeable.

That way, if you go to sell the car, you can pull the carbon roof off and sell it on or save it for another project.

Thanks for the info, they make that look so easy.

I will give that some thought but forgot to mention that I was going to lacquer the wrapped parts to give a gloss/wet finish to them as not keen on a matt look.

I may try and buy some and do a couple of things on the interior to see how they go.

hi i have just started to use carbon fibre but this is not the way i do parts as if you wax up the roof the resin Will just run off and down into the edges i found this out because i polished up a layer of resin and buffed through to the carbon and when i tried to re apply the resin it rust ran off and needed to be key up again and also bolting the carbon on with m4 nuts and bolts will leave you with holes on the roof if you ever sell your car but in the end its your choice

hope this helped liam
