hi there

when i replaced the drive shaft gaters on my mini i was supplied with just a large cable tie to hold the 1 cup over the other(mini spares kit). that may be a way of fixing it although the mot tester did say that compared to the steel cables the cable ties arent as good. as far as i was concerned when doing it i dont think you can undo the originals and re use them.

If you use a jubilee clip it might foul on the exhaust manifold depending which manifold you have fitted.

I wouldn't use a jubilee clip! Go to your local motor factor and they should sell metal tie-wraps which are perfect for the job! Probably under a quid each.

As Kaj mentioned, there are metal cable ties available. They are often used to secure heat wrap to exhaust manifolds.

The old-school method of securing the boot could also be considered. That involves buying a small spool of soft iron wire about 1 to 1-1/2 mm thick. You put two or three loops of that around the boot and twist the ends together. Once secure, you cut the twisted wire off so only about 1/2 inch is sticking off the boot and you fold that twisted section over so it is resting against the boot. The direction of the fold is important. With the twisted wire pointing down toward the ground you want to fold the wire towards the front of the car. That will keep it from fouling anything when the car is moving forward at speed.
