hi ive just aquired a metro turbo unit. just missing the carb and have a few hif44 carbs laying about. are there any differences between naturally asperated and turbo'd carbs

Yes, the turbo carb is sealed where as the n/a isnt...

I believe a n/a carb can be converted ( machined ) to work with a turbo.

how do you mean sealed. on the shafts throught the carb

You can buy a turbo carb rebuild kit and fit it to a normal one. It needs to be sealed because, on boost, the pressure is higher than atmoshperic and it would blow fuel 'n air out of any gaps. It is mostly the throttle spindle, but there's also a tougher float that won't collapse under pressure and a better float valve. You'll also need to block off the overflow/vent pipe, or connect it to a solenoid valve that closes when the ignition goes on.

The suction chamber is also sealed.

you need to tee the boost into the float bowl too as it doesnt pressurise under boost.

all i have done is replace the spindle seals and t into the float bowl didnt change any of the rest and there are no leaks or issues
