Hi Mini Forum
I have an '02' mini cooper. the drivers window has recently stopped working. when i attempt to lower it (pressing the button), i hear a click but the window does not lower. i have banged the door a few times in case the window is stuck, but this does not fix the problem. i have noticed that when i close the drivers door while sitting in the drivers seat, sometimes the door does not completely close, because the window does not lower (a fraction) just before the door shuts. and so the window catches on the outside of the door frame. this does not always happen. i have found that by slightly lowering the passenger window before closing the drivers door results in the driver door ALWAYS closing without this problem.
has anyone seen this problem before, and if so is there a way to fix it without an expensive visit to the BMW garage?
many thanks for your help
jon

I believe this usually comes down to either the door switches not sensing the position of the door properly, or an error in the computer. This has been asked a few times before, you can search the forum using our own search bar or Google for solutions that have helped others. Answers will be in the technical section usually.

Also a couple of simple things you can try below:
MINI Windows Don't Drop
Method 1
The drop action is to avoid the air cushion effect which makes closing the door harder.
Although there is always the possibility of a more significant problem, it is most likely caused by a “confused” system. Some of us flick the window switch just to make sure the windows are all the way up, which confuses our MINI's into thinking the window wasn't already all the way up in the first place. The solution is to press – and hold – the window switch in the up position. You can do this with the door closed (as a preventative measure), or when they're open (if you realize they have not dropped when you open the door). You'll know this little tip has worked when your window drops down slightly.
Method 2
If either of the windows don't drop and go back up when the door is opened or closed, then to fix this drop the window right down and then back up (do this with the door open), when the window is at the top it should drop, then top up, then drop, close the door and it should be fixed.
Does the interior light come on when you open the passenger door?
If it doesn't, then the door ajar switch within the latch might be faulty, and therefore not sensing that the door is being opened, and therefore not dropping the window, or turning on interior light.
If all else fails I have previously posted some links on the MCR forum to some good MINI Electric Window Motor Reconditioning DIY Guides:-
