Got another fault that seems to have cropped up ...

m reg - cooper 1.3 single point fuel injection
engine has a k&n filter fitted with a 4 branch manifold

this evening i drove home from work about 50mph - 7 miles in total. upon coming to a halt at a set of traffic lights the revs were sticking at 3000rpm with no throttle being applied.

on the other hand from a cold start up the engine idle's below 500rpm and struggles to idle at all until warm.
its quite random how it can be fine one day and mad the next.

is there like common checks to look at ?
or normal things to go wrong.

cheers
Clark

Throttle cable might be wearing a little. When it over revvs, put your foot under the gas pedal and pull up gently. If it stops over reving, you need a new cable. Mine was doing this the other day, replaced the cable and all was well

Easy things first - Check all vacuum pipes and theri elbows for cracks, which may be causing a leak. Also check the fuel trap for a any leaks where teh vacumm pipes join.

When the revs stick does the car want pull itself? what happens when you restart the engine?

Sounds like stepper motor problem - ask again on the 'injection' section of the forum.

the car pulls its self yes - had to resort to using brakes and clutch to stop it whilst in gear.
turning off engine then restarting has no effect.

once engine has been running for over half hour it seems to find its normal idle, whist cold the revs seem to stay high.

I think it is still availible but costs excess of 100 quid, A fault code reader will be able to tell you if its the problem,.
