1997 rover

sorry to post another squeaky front wheel topic!

so ive had this problem 3 times now, so im kindof lost to why it keeps coming back, get a loud grinding when traveling at steady speeds, more so turning to the left

replaced the wheel bearings and it went for a mouth, did the same with the balljionts, didn't hear it for another mouth, now its happening again,

im thinking maybe, distorted breaks, or cv jionts ? does that sound right

im going to take it all apart and put it back together tomorrow. im worried even if it goes, it will shortly come back

just a bit confussed to why it keeps going and then retearning with exactly the same sound after such a period later

my discs used to grind as they were warped so that might well possible. you should be able to tell though by taking the wheel off and spinning the disc.

last time i did that, they seemed a tinny bit tighter in one area. worth looking into
would i also have odd / excessive pad wear ?

also, safe to drive ? just annoying ?

that happend to me the second time round, came back after a few days, that's when i did the balljionts and it went, for a while longer,
ts worth looking to see if they are shot either way, and doing them while you have got eveything apart. couldn't believe the difference in handling after i did mine

bloody stressful isnt it, esspcaily when you have a good look at everything that 'could' be the problem and it all moves how its meant to and looks how its meant to
does your noise happen more in wet weather ?

hope you find the cause soonish

Mines like a graunching noise, not so much a grinding...its rotational and i notice it when im pulling up to a stop...i know i need to do my driveshaft gaitors and track rod ends anndddd other things tomorrow so hopefully it will solve it :P

Does the noise vary with speed?

Does it go away if you lightly press the brakes?

I'd have thought it'd more likely be cv joints than discs, unless the discs are massively warped.

I think that may be you guys are not following the recomended method for fitting wheel bearings, CV or brake disc........

Have you fitted it all together using a flat washer first, then fitting the split cone washer ? This method is laid out in the haynes manual in the supplement section.....

Hope fully this will help you all with your squeeky issues
