tonight i was removing the cones on my mini, and the driveshaft came out of the bearing cage thing, safe to say i wasted about half an hour trying to get it to go back into the splined hole, however i noticed that i could feel one of the ball bearings had fallen out so i had to remove the boot to check anyway. my question is how do i put the ball bearing back into its cage, i cant seem to move it around enough to pop it back in. any tips?

Just push it in from the outside - a bit of pressure from your thumbs and it'll click into place

From the sounds of it you should replace the circlip on the shaft, it shouldn't just come out and should just push back in. If the clip is chewed up or broken then these things can start to happen.

got the ball back in, with a litle help from a toffee hammer. anyway next question, the circlip on the shaft is still there, however it doesnt just push back into the bearing cage, so do i need to use the aid of pliers or something to squeeze it together and push it back in?
