on the gear linkage there is a roller pin that u can knock out with a small punch from underneath. I'm guessing you have pot joints in which case you need to put a flat bar of some sort and leaver it and they should pop out. Dont forget engin mountings, speedo cable, throttle, choke, and wiring.

To remove the gear change you will need a punch that is the exact size of the roll pin, put the car in reverse gear and knock the pin nearest to the gearbox out. The pin that is furthest from the gearbox is usually more difficult to remove.

I've never been able to use the levering method, always find it much easier to pop the top ball joints.

Also, I took the top ball joints off on mine, cut off the metal clips holding thee driveshaft boots onto the Diff (engine...) and just pulled them off. The rubber boots are like suction cups, so they just 'pop' off. When I came round to fitting them again, I held them on with big cable ties, which saves faffing around with new metal clips! As long as they're held on securely they'll be fine. They're quite a snug fit anyway.

I took mine out last sat and thought i'd mention a few points while its still fresh...
Areas caused me hassle:
-Removal of exhaust manifold, the 2 centre nuts are a pain to access, patience and a short spanner was needed..
-Once off I undid back of exhaust off car so I could access the support bar which goes from gear lever box to back of engine...
-Rod linkage pin made me swear...lol...got a blood blister to prove it....can't remember which i rememoved now, but one was alot easier than the other so try both..
-I took rad out 1st before engine out...
-I didn't break ball joints...jus snapped out ea drive shaft (big screwdriver) and started to lift engine and a little sway left and right and this creates enough space to pull drive shafts out..
