I've got hold of some Lucas L488 lenses (the flat clear ones) for the front of my mini, with the intention of running them as both sidelights and indicators. I would also like it for them to be led, but if push comes to shove I'll settle for good old glass bulbs. My question is pretty vauge really, I dont know much about these twin light units, did they use a single bulb of some kind which would do both jobs at the same time? Or do the twin contact bulb holders I'm seeing hold two separate bulbs? I've seen this done on a few minis now with LED's, Project 45 and the infamous 8 inch wheeled vaux mini in the current miniworld spring to mind.
So yeah, answers on a postcard, anyone who knows where i should start looking!

I looked into this myself, I could only find bulb holders which hold single or twin filment bulbs. You won't be able to use a twin filement bulb for side and indicator because of the colours required. I think you'll have to modify/make your own??

Thanks for the vid freddy, not sure I like the idea of orange sidelights though, I was hoping to have a more brilliant white effect for the sidelights with a really clear orange indicator. I'll be using clear lenses since ive bought them already. The idea is to look more retro than what I have now, but crisper and more functional. Maybe I will just have to make my own, does anyone know how the chap who built miniworld's Projcet 45 did it?

I was told headlights. Now I'm guessing this includes sidelights but I'm not a billion % sure. Can be White or Amber/Yellow which means they would be a ok.

Just because your car passes the MOT it doesn't mean that any modifications you happen to have carried out are legal.
Have a lookie here if you want the definitive answer for lighting questions.

So freddy, I'm still not sure how those double filament lamp holders work. Are they two separate bulbs? If not how can I fit the two bulbs in? For reference, the L488 lenses are these type:

Twin filment lamp holders have one bulb in. They are for on the rear of a vehicle so will be for tail and brake light, therefore they are usually a clear bulb with red lense but i think you can also get the other way round too.

I guessed as much, but wasnt sure. Guess I'll have a go at modifying one of those bulb holders then!
