My poor mini is starting fine, but it's not able to hold it's revs and eventually coughs, splutters and stalls.

This is only an issue when the engine is cold & yes, I am using the choke!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Slap it on the back

On a serious note, you may wish to wait for someone who can help you with your car, rather than First Aid issues!

Good luck!

Have you adjusted or changed anything on the fuel or ignition?
Does it reve freely when warm?
Take out number 1 and 2 spark plug and look at the colour anything darker than light brown means it's rich (not after running on the choke though)

Thanks for the replies! Apologies for the delay in getting back to you all...

Is there oil in the dash pot?
Yes, seems to be plenty.

Have you adjusted or changed anything on the fuel or ignition?
No.

Does it rev freely when warm?
Yup, it purrs beautifully, only a problem when

Spark plug condition?

Dirty! Covered in black soot. Does this mean it's running rich? I'd better resort to the Haynes manual. Wiped off and they've remained a dull grey so I've taken the sand paper to them and given them a shine. We'll see how it goes tomorrow morning.

Also having this problem, so would like answers too :-

Cleaned my spark plugs too, they were sooty black as yours are.

Either put up with it or richen the mixture off by about 2 flats, it’s because the weather has turned colder the engine needs more fuel to keep it happy.

Does your carb feel really cold to touch after its been running for a while? Chances are the carb is freezing as its sucking in the cold air.
