Spark Plugs

hi there this may be a dumb question but are all spark plugs the same fitting, i mean are they the same size as im looking to get a socket to replace mine on my 1275 city! thanks in advance. :)

There are 2 common sizes of spark plug in use in cars. There are odd special exceptions and bikes and things use different plugs but if you are buying from a car parts shop, get the bigger of the two sockets on the shelf.

thanks Dan, the two common ones im seeing are 10mm and 16mm. so the latter would be the best bet then? :)

If your question is about what socket you need, for mini plugs its 13/16ths. Or about 21mm.

thanks very much. every time i type in spark plug socket in ebay there is 10mm or 16mm i can't find a 21mm one? :)

OK, I was trying not to go into detail because spark plug sockets are unusual in that they are labelled with the size of the thread of the spark plug not the A/F size of the socket. You need a socket for 14mm spark plugs, normal extra deep sockets can be used but they can easily damage plugs and it's easy to drop the plug out of them. Spark plug sockets have a rubber cup to hold onto the plug and prevent the ceramic stem getting jammed and possibly cracking. Spark plugs are metric sized.
