hey guys, ive been called up to my mates today ebcause his mini has been firing on 3 spark plugs, i did the basics check the spark plug it wont fire while in no.3 (left to right) but will fire in all the others, i then moved on teh the lead same again all leads will fire on all sparks plugs apart from no.03

ive checked the dizzy, it was all brand new including cap last week.

Just wondering what else it could be the car had all enw plugs, points, condensor and cap last week as it turned out his points where very well used to put it kindly.

ive gotta do a compression test on it tomorrow because i said i would do one ages ago but im wondering what it could be thats causing no.03 to not spark.

cheers

Dan

already tried that, ive take plug no.03 out and repalced it with plug n0.02 but still wont fire on no.03 but plug from no.03 will fire on no.02, tried swaping leads over all leads work on all plugs apart from no.03. so everything works apart from when you put it back in no.03 regardless of what plug it is or lead it just stops working

Faulty Dizzy cap? I think the brushes (which makes contact with the rotor arm) in them are spring loaded, maybe number 3 is sticking?

Faulty rotor arm ?
Bent shaft that the rotor arm sits on?

urm the bent rotor arm shaft seems a possiblility, the rotor arm was again new and i have tried several aswell.

My theory (although it's only an idea and I may be wrong) is the rotor arm may be moving away from the dizzy cap contact when it gets near number 3 contact!

Anyone else got any thoughts on this??>?

If several caps, and rotor arms have been used, and the problem still persisted, then it must be something like that.

Something like a worn dizzy.

Can't see what else it could be as its indpendant of :
lead
plug
dizzy cap
rotor arm

so logically, only the dizzy left.

Could be a worn burnt valve? Is no3 down on compression?
