The spray may be just too coarse and may not stand up to the solvents in automotive paint. I'd get a compressor and a proper spray gun. That's what I did. Saved myself nearly£2k

I am not a fan of the electric spray kits, never found them any good.Better to hire a real set for your respray in my view.

Is a full spray available for hire?
I've not heard of anyone hiring a full spray set but it would be handy for others to know if one of the national chains do it.

Some small hire shops or Small private garages will rent the kit with a large deposit to cover the value and return it only charging the hire fee agreed if all is as was and clean. Its easy to hire an air comp. even if you buy you own pot sprayer and sell it on or keep it.I do not like the cheap electric ones so its only my view on them.It is all up to you.

If budget is more important than a show car finish consider roller painting it. I painted my university hack with rustoleum a few back, was fine for a daily drive. wasnt going to win any awards but heck it cost me £50 at the time.

My brother has just finished painting his t4 using the same method with synthetic paint thinned down with white spirit (slows down the curing time making it easier to apply. Other than taking a while to build up the finish it looks great!

Try searching for earlex. I've seen good results when people have used one of their spraying machines.

I have used an Earlex 3000 to spray Rostulom on my mini. The results are good and the machine is up to the job.

As mentioned you can hire a full compressor from somewhere like HSS hire (link here).

My dad used them to paint mini's back in the 60s and 70s, he just used to rub them smooth afterward and t cut them back to a sheen.

Just buy a cheap compressor from Aldi / Omega Wolf.
They come with a cheap paint gun. If i remember correctly mine cost about £60 (or somewhere in the price region)
I bought a cheap gravity fed paint gun off ebay and used this for the primering and (luckily) a mate had a devilbiss gun and a 200l compressor that we sprayed my camper with, but if your not overly bothered about the finish then i would just use the gun that comes with the compressor.
Would also be of more use afterwards than an earlex

I wondered the same thing a year or so back when I was considering spraying my previous Mini myself.

Turns out you can hire spray sets, although, like the example you gave in the original post, I'm not certain that they'll all handle car paint/solvents. This was a website I found. A fair range of different sets and locations for hire.

Something like THIS might do the job?

Yes complete respray facilities can be hired from national hire chains, as well as local independent hire centres clicky

Personally I wouldn't recommend hiring a spray gun though, hire equipment tends to be poorly cared for and in my experience hired spray guns are often dirty and in a poor state of repair, resulting in a poor finish. Instead you could purchase your own spray gun and airline relatively cheaply and then just hire the compressor when needed. clicky

Yes above the old Rolls Royce cars were hand painted with about 22 coats.I hand painted a car like that to years ago with Techoloid old Paint.Came out great and did not rust.I am in Solihull so close to you also have a good chat on HAM radio with you lot you keep the C.B alive to.Keep it up.I am a big fan of the Air kits.In Birmingham there also is a very good place that makes the paint to perfect match to you needs with a sample and put it in a large spray can very cheap for small jobs, about £20.Quality cans that spray well.
