managed to poke a few holes in my battery box when i had the mini on the ramp at work today, so as above, can the battery box in the boot floor be replaced with a fibre glass one, in order to save weight and so it dont rust again? If so where do i get one from and whats the best way to go about fitting, seeing as the only bodywork ive done is panelbeating, filling and painting? Many thanks :)

i probably could make a fibreglass one, but i think itll work out cheaper to buy one, if i cant buy one already done ill manufacture my own one, and reinforce it with alluminium strips. :)

I brought a new metal one off ebay for £14 and the covered it in bright blue hammerite to match the car....has worked so far!
Also we used rivets and a bit of sealent to secure it in.

i may as well just get a new metal one if thats all they cost, and weld it in or rivet it for ease of replacement. Thanks all.

weld a plate over and fit a racing battery under the passenger seat, suits your car better i think....

Just rivit the new one in so when it does rust out, which it will, you can replace it with a new one in seconds.

i would say no because although not structural it's with in 30cm of the rear subframe mounts

therefore any repairs must be in steel and welded in properly

people still put carbon boot floors in though, and i haven't heard of any problems yet.

if its metal weld it in but if going for carbon of fibreglass its up to you how you fit it, bonding or bolting etc

Put a carbon fibre boot floor in. That gets rid of your wheel well and battery box. Then you can put your battery anywhere you want!

and where do i put the spare wheel then? :D id rather the battery be in the boot as well rather than inside with me, letting off all sorts of nasty vapour..

As for mots, itll be fine.

You could always fit an Odyssey battery in a box under on of the front seats.

if its weight saving your after and mot isn't a problem i would at least fit a f/g boot floor, arc-angels-minis do one that has a recess for a competition tank which should house your sparewheel and battery and should be strong enough. its only about £50 for the floor and then you just need a battery tray and clamp set.... i assume your still doin the hill climbing so you realy need to loose as much weight as possible and thats the way forward imo....
