ok looks like you lot have convinced me to do steel instead of fibreglass.
this is going to happen this time next year but want to get my plans in!

its going to be a removable 2 piece, so it only HAS to come off for major work. But when i do it i don't want to be without the car for as long as i am now! so want to make it before the car comes off the road for chopping,

so my question is,
how do you make them? i mean it all need to be lined up with the new scuttle thats its going to have too, or can it just all be welded together without the car as a 'jig'?????

Ideally it needs to be made to fit the car, ie you need the front off then fit the panels up to the car then weld them together.

I have not done this before but if i did i would cut off the old panels , clean up the edges , fit the new front panel with the original bolts (and rubber mountings) fit the wings using "vice grips " or simular "mole grips" if you have to , remove and refitt as many times as nessersary to get a good fit and then weld up the seams between the wings and front panel ,when i was happy with the fit i would fit the "duetz faseners" or whatever method you have chosen , the next bit is remove the front altogether , bin the rubber mountings and figer our your hinge method
the last flip front i did on my own car did not have hinges , it just removed on bonnet pins .

Like woody, I'm just using bonnet pins to attach the flip on petal at the front, plus I have the advantage the the steel flip is the original panels, but I would strong suggest getting it all lined up on the car. Every mini is different and so is every panel.. you need to line them up in situe, but will not take long...

Took me an afternoon to do mine, and I used the original front too. Will post pics up later.
