To get another one, you will need to buy a spare, then have it "coded" to the car. This would mean sending the new fob, the engine ECU AND the alarm 5as ECU from behind the dash away for programming. Is the cost / effort worth it? In my opinion: no. Make a copy of the door and ignition keys as normal so you can at least open the car with another set of keys, and if you ever lose the fob / break it, then look at getting a new one.

It will cost you £75. I think it is worthwhile. I had one my two fobs refurbished because I hate the idea of not having a spare if I lose one or it stops working.
Have a look at this site: www.remotekey.co.uk/cars/rover/rover-mini/

This one comes up a lot.

I can't recommend the following company/product highly enough:

http://www.alarmremo...new_page_14.htm

With their Rov2 programmer kit you can make your own key fob at home and you don't have to remove any bits from the car. They then also have your code so they can make another fob for you in the future if you need it. They actually posted the kit to me in Australia: I plugged the programmer into the diagnostic socket of my MPi, followed the simple instructions and had a working key fob within in seconds. A few weeks later my one and only original key fob died. I have never been so happy about spending 88 quid in all my life!

Having a spare key cut is not such a problem. There are a number of places that can do this for you e.g.

I have only one alarm fob for my 96 Sprite too. 1 Key for the ignition too, so I am saving up so I can get a new one programmed in for me >_<

Thanks for the info, i got the rov2 fob from alarm remotes and had no hassles. They have put a 30 quid refundable charge on the pod which you have to return in ten days after you get it. This was done as people were not sending the pods back. I have been using for a while now and had no probems

your best cheapest option is to join the mg rover forum, get some fobs off ebay, contact technozen on that board, and send him just the 5as and fobs. he will program the fobs for free if you pay a yearly £12 to the forum. He has done 3 sets of 4 fobs for me.
