Personally, i'd say that stance looks pretty damn hot! What arches are they, if you don't mind my asking?

The main thing that wheel spacers will mess with, is the handling. It'll mess with the steering geometry. How this'll affect the handling, i can't say i know, but it'll certainly have an effect.

hey scott i had 12x5.5 inch superlights on my mini and i used 1" spacers to bring then out inline with the group 2 race wide arches i have on mine but got told by a mini garage that they where dangerous and can snap ur wheel studs and wear out ur wheel bearing alot faster lol but if u want to go for spacers then use the 1" spacers which u use the wheel spacer studs and screw them onto ur existing wheel studs there alot safer but will wear the beaings but not as much i dont think there the ones i had fitted to mine and for the 6 months i had them fitted i never had any problems and my mini was used every day lol but ive taken them off now and slammed mine rite down with a half to 1" gap all round with super stiff race shocks it handles like it on rails
cheers
dean
p.s hope this helps lol

Im using 3/4" spacers with no problems. They apparently wear your bearings out quicker but ive had no problems with wheels studs. If they are tightened correctly there is no reason they should shear.

I have seen the effects of wide spacers in 'failure mode' and it's not pretty!
If you have the correct wheels, of whatever width, you should not need spacers except, possibly, thin ones on the rear to obtain tyre clearance from the radius arms (maybe 6 mm max.).
Remember, the max tyre width on a 12" wheel is a 165 and the max wheel width for a 165 is 6". Wider than that and you are in breach of 'Construction & Use regs'.
You can buy 6" wide 12" diameter wheels which don't require a spacer and which will sit under the Group 2 arches.

Hi Dean,

It's worth noting that spacers that wide move the "strain point" on the bearings outwards so that your outer bearing takes a lot more of the steering force/weight of the car, hence premature or catastrophic failure.

The hub and bearings are designed to be used with wheels using a small offset. This means the wheel can be narrow or wide, but the wheel offest puts the "strain point" somewhere in between the two bearings so sharing the load.

Even with this set-up wide 13" wheels can reduce the life of the bearings, so wide spacers with larger wheels is a definate no-no!

Steve.

Whatever wheels you use, you want the inside edge of the tyre to be as clost as possible to the bodywork/dampers/rear rad arm as possible without rubbinbg during hard cornering. That way you keep to the original steering and suspension geometry. Ideally with a 165 width tyre the ideal wheel width is 4.5" to 5.5" with 6" as a maximum. A radial ply tyre needs to have a suitable rim for best and safest performance in all conditions. There are some very nice 5.5" wide wheels in the 12" diameter which really do the job well.

Miglias fill their arches partly because they are race cars which means they can use massively wide slicks that aren't road legal, and partly because they use completely custom suspension. Spacing the wheels far enough to fill Miglia arches would be insane. Remember the disc brake setup is already spaced out 1" from the original design track of the car.

i would use the inch competition spacer like on mine and then if its still not wide enough you can cut the arches down slightly
